| Install Problems: Most common problem(s) | June 11, 2004 @ 3:19pm | We've found that the most common problem people have when installing FlexCMS onto their server, is that they:
1) Do not create a MySQL database before beginning the installation
AND/OR
2) Do not know or have not input the correct database name and/or username/password combination once they begin the installation process.
Listed below are just a few guidelines on how to accomplish these things to ease your installation issues.
How do you create a MySQL database?
Depending on your particular hosting provider, this answer varies. Some hosting plans allow you to create your own mySQL database and if this is the case you can do so:
a) by using phpMyAdmin. phpMyAdmin is a client program with a Web-based interface for creating MySQL databases.
b) by using cPanel or some similiar web hosting panel software**
c) by using Perl, PHP, or other languages that are capable of interfacing with MySQL.
d) from the UNIX command line, using Structured Query Language commands.
However, other hosting providers may require you to contact system administrator and request that they setup a database for you. If you are unsure about what your particular options are, we recommend that you contact your web hosting provider for more information.
How do you know what my database name and/or username/password is for this mySQL database?
Again, the answers vary, but generally speaking, your system administrator or hosting provider should have supplied this to you. If your web hosting utilizes cPanel, you should be able to view your database names by clicking on the MySQL icon.
As for username/passwords, it's usually the same username and password you use to access cPanel. If you are unsure about this, we suggest you contact your system administrator or hosting provider for more information.
If you are new to working with MySQL, there are many online resources available. In fact, you may view the MySQL reference manual online here:

**NOTE: If you use Cpanel software to create your MySQL database, make sure you input the entire database name into the Database Name field on the install.php file, i.e. yourusername_yourdatabasename or you will get error messages. |

| Errors caused by Uploading Files FTP | August 20, 2004 @ 5:14pm | Another common problem for installing FlexCMS is the uploading of actual FlexCMS files.
Please make sure your FTP program is uploading the .data and .map files in binary mode, or you will encounter errors during the installation process.
The install.php file should still be uploaded in ascii mode. |
