| Root folder install - all links include "index.php" | August 21, 2007 @ 1:37am | I've installed v2.5, and somehow, all the links include "index.php". I'm worried that my SEO efforts will be affected by this.
You can see what I mean by all the links on my site map, and even in the site map link itself:

Before I go any further in developing this site, I'm hoping you can help me fix this so that the link looks something like this instead:

I'd hate to have to start over! Sorry to be a pain! (I'm assuming that there's no way to eliminate the /pages/ directory in these links, is that true?)
Also... I just tried to upload images to a second gallery, and although I'm not getting an error message, I'm not getting an upload confirmation either. I checked the "pg_images" folder, the permissions are set to 777. Help!

We've seen a number of FlexCMS sites achieve good search engine placement with the stock installation configuration, so I don't know that the presence of the index.php in the URL has a negative impact on SEO. That said, if you're using Apache you can certainly change it to something else. You'll see here we changed ours to "flex", though for display purposes as much as anything else. You can find information about changing it here: http://www.flexcms.com/flex/forum/4/9.html.
Depending on your server's configuration and your expertise you may be able to eliminate that level all together. The index.php file would still be present, as it controls the whole operation of the site, however it wouldn't be present in the address. You can find some information about this here: http://www.google.ca/search?q=mod+rewrite+index.php. Please note that this has not been tested with FlexCMS and is not something we can offer support for at this time.
Yes, the "pages" level does need to be there. That tells FlexCMS that it's looking for a page with that name, and not a built in function or module.
As for your images upload problem, it's hard to say what that might be without further details. Feel free to send us admin access to your FlexCMS installation and FTP details to .

| August 21, 2007 @ 2:35pm | Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions! I was unaware that the script was supposed to run this way, it just looked wrong to me. I appreciate your explanation, it helped me understand. 
Since there was no installation error, I'm going to leave it alone so that I don't run into problems with upgrades and mods!
