| Site Search | February 17, 2007 @ 4:43pm | Hi,
I have been asked about a site search facilty - something that could search pages and newsletters?
Is this possible? |

No, unfortunately a search feature isn't yet available in FlexCMS.
While a straight database search feature isn't all that complicated, the trouble comes in all the different types of content that can be created with FlexCMS. There's the process of having to discriminate between PHP code, HTML code, and standard text, and filter out the code from the content. Then there's also the complication of having content from all the different modules, such as articles, forum posts, and e-commerce products, all stored in their own formats and areas.
We hope to have a search feature available in a future version, but when exactly I can't really say at this point.

Yes, the Google site search is an okay option if you need something in the meantime. The other problem, in addition to taking people away from the site as you mentioned, is it relies on the pages being cached and integrated into the Google system, which sometimes can take months, or never happen at all.
Search capabilities are certainly something we've had on the FlexCMS wish list, and we'll do our best to get them in for you in the near future.
