Text users optionJuly 20, 2005 @ 10:03am
I intend to get flexcms working for my brother in law who is blind and uses a text only talking web browser.

It looks like I can set him up an account in FlexCMS with the right level of access, and by assigning him a specific user level, put "if ($userlevel=nn)" statements in to simplify the edit screens, set default values etc.

This may be a option to consider for a future release - adding accessibilty as a selling point.

Roger,

Thanks for your interest in FlexCMS.

We're always looking at ways we can make our product better and appeal to a larger group of people, and that may be an area we work on in the future.

As for your modifying it now, yes, you should be able to make whatever modifications you desire. Specific to your question, there are two variables you might wish to use: $CookieUsername will contain the username (or be empty if a guest), and $UserLevel will contain their permission level (or zero if a guest). More information about accessing the system variables and functions can be found here: http://www.flexcms.com/flex/forum/11/4.html

Made a start - so far so good.July 21, 2005 @ 6:54am
Thanks for the quick reply.

My issue is not viewing the site, but allowing my Brother in law to be able to edit it directly himself.

I have suscessfully modified the edit page script so that if the userlevel = 20 several options and some help text are not displayed
(replaced with type=hidden variables).
I will try it out with his talking browser before modifiying any others.
I am impressed with how well structured it is.

Roger
